January 2017, Tampa, FL –Coppertail Brewing Co. has created an initiative named Helping with Hops to give back to those in need in the Tampa Bay Community. Each month in 2018, a different charity will benefit from proceeds from the sale of one of Coppertail’s beers sold in the taproom.
Donating to charity is not something new for craft brewers. In 2016, craft brewers across America donated an estimated $73.4 million to charitable causes, as reported in the 2016 Brewery Operations Benchmarking survey released by the Brewer’s Association. Coppertail felt it made sense to participate because it’s the nature of the business.
Coppertail’s marketing director, Gary Kost, said, “The Tampa Bay community has been good to us, and we wanted to do something to show our gratitude. Every month we choose a non-profit that is important to us and donate a portion of proceeds from beer sales.”
Giving back fits Coppertail’s way of life. Not many business communities put giving to charities at the top of their most important efforts, but it fits Coppertail’s identity as a fiercely independent brewery. “We have been successful because of the help of others and we know we can be stronger as a community if we help each other out,” said Gary.
The charities are chosen by Coppertail staff and teams. For the month of January, the Coppertail sales team chose Joshua House, a safe-haven for abused, neglected and abandoned children in Tampa Bay.
February’s beneficiary will be the Little Lighthouse Foundation. It’s a non-profit that assists children and their families in South Florida who struggle with educational, financial and medical hardships.
Each month’s charity will have a Helping with Hops night at Coppertail, and $1 from every beer sold that night will go to help their efforts. Coppertail also will accept monetary donations for each beneficiary. For more information on Helping with Hops, visit the Coppertail Facebook page.
